Ada County Highway District Adds Safety Markers to University Drive Crosswalks Near Boise State

Interstate highway

The Ada County Highway District will begin installing pedestrian safety improvements along University Drive near Boise State University the week of August 10, focusing on enhanced visual markers at key crosswalks to help drivers and pedestrians navigate intersections more safely.

The project will add candlestick delineators—vertical safety markers—to the sides of the crosswalk at Theater Lane in the middle lane section and at the start of crosswalks on the south side of University Drive. These markers are designed to make crossings more visible to approaching drivers and cyclists while helping pedestrians more easily identify safe crossing points.

Changes to Crosswalk Configuration

As part of the effort, the Ada County Highway District will remove the crosswalk connecting Bronco Circle to the Recreation Center. However, pedestrians will retain access to the Recreation Center through existing crosswalks in front of the Bronco Shop and Boulder Hall on the north side of the facility.

The improvements reflect broader efforts across Ada County to enhance pedestrian infrastructure in high-traffic areas. Similar signal installation projects have been undertaken by the Ada County Highway District at other locations throughout the region to improve traffic flow and safety.

Local Impact

The changes affect a corridor heavily used by Boise State students, staff, and community members. University Drive serves as a primary connector through the campus and surrounding neighborhoods, making pedestrian safety a key consideration for the district.

Work is expected to begin during the week of August 10 and will be completed as the district’s schedule allows. Residents and commuters using University Drive during this period should expect minor disruptions as crews install the delineators.
