Possible changes coming to Marigold Street in Garden City

Garden City and the Ada County Highway District are examining potential upgrades to the Marigold Street corridor, where growing traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian activity have put pressure on one of the area’s key connector routes. The study covers the stretch of Marigold Street running from Garrett Street to Glenwood Street — a segment that passes near Expo Idaho, Memorial Stadium, the Greenbelt, Garden City Hall, and the local library.

What Changes Are Being Considered

Officials are evaluating a range of possible improvements along the corridor, including buffered bike lanes, narrower travel lanes, green bike lane markings, and modifications to several major intersections. ACHD’s concept study specifically looks at intersections at Garrett, Coffey, and Glenwood streets, where congestion and pedestrian conflicts have become more pronounced in recent years.

Garden City resident Bill, who regularly rides through the area with his son, said the corridor has transformed significantly. “That has turned into what used to be like a tertiary street, side street, to now it’s a very busy, almost a thoroughfare,” he said. He also flagged the Greenbelt access point as a particular pinch point, especially during events at nearby venues. “I think it can get quite confusing and too busy at times, especially when you have the Hawks game going on,” he said, adding that the double left-turn movement off Marigold can create confusion for drivers.

Impact on Ada County Residents

The Marigold corridor serves a dense mix of uses — recreational trail access, event venues, civic facilities, and everyday neighborhood traffic — making it a priority for both ACHD and Garden City planners. As Treasure Valley communities continue to grow, corridors like Marigold increasingly feel the strain of competing demands between vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Improvements here could ease congestion during peak event periods while making the route safer for families using the Greenbelt.

This study is one of several active transportation and road improvement efforts across Ada County. A second phase of the Chinden and 43rd crossing project also recently got underway, reflecting broader infrastructure investment across the region as growth continues to accelerate.

What Comes Next

ACHD and the city of Garden City will host a public open house on the Marigold Street concept study on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend and share feedback on the proposed changes. No final decisions have been announced, and the open house is part of the early community input phase of the planning process.

Garden City residents who use Marigold Street for commuting, recreation, or daily errands will have a direct opportunity to weigh in on which improvements best serve the neighborhood. Those interested in other ongoing infrastructure developments across Ada County can also follow updates on the recent Meridian power outage response and related utility and road projects shaping the Treasure Valley.
