Ada County Assessor’s Office Launches Walk-In Driver’s License and Star Card Service

Idaho State Capitol rotunda

Ada County residents seeking to renew their driver’s licenses or obtain a Star Card can now access those services without scheduling an appointment at a new downtown Boise location, beginning Monday, July 13. The Ada County Assessor’s Office at 190 E. Front St., Suite 107—directly east of the Ada County Courthouse—will handle walk-in renewals and Star Card applications during regular business hours.

The move expands driver’s license service options across Ada County and addresses demand for appointment-free access to state identification services. Residents in Boise, Eagle, Meridian, Kuna, Star, and Garden City now have multiple locations to choose from depending on their needs and proximity.

Service Locations Across Ada County

In addition to the new assessor’s office walk-in service, the Hybrid Vehicle and Driver’s License Services facility at 9115 W. Chinden Blvd., Suite 103 in Garden City continues to operate. For residents preferring the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, appointment-required driver’s license offices remain available at three locations: 400 N. Benjamin Lane in Boise, 736 S. Progress Ave. in Meridian, and 10769 W. State St. in Star.

The expansion reflects ongoing efforts by Ada County agencies to streamline access to essential identification services for Treasure Valley residents. The appointment-free model at the downtown assessor’s office may reduce wait times for routine renewals, though specific operating hours and services offered should be confirmed before visiting.

What Comes Next

Residents planning to renew their driver’s license or apply for a Star Card are encouraged to bring required documents to ensure smooth processing. For questions about specific identification requirements or to verify which documents are needed, residents can contact the Ada County Assessor’s Office or review updated proof of identity requirements announced by the Idaho DMV.

The service launch comes as Ada County continues to modernize access to government services. For more information about local government initiatives, stay updated on other Ada County policy developments.
