A 76-year-old Boise resident remained in critical condition Sunday after being struck by a vehicle on westbound Interstate 84 near Meridian early Sunday morning. The collision, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. near milepost 45, prompted a multi-agency response and temporarily shut down two lanes of the highway.

According to Idaho State Police, the pedestrian was walking in the far-right lane when a Nissan driven by a 19-year-old Meridian resident struck him. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of impact. Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Response and Investigation

Meridian Police, Meridian Fire, and Ada County Paramedics assisted state troopers at the scene. The two far-right lanes of westbound I-84 remained closed for approximately three hours while investigators examined the crash site and gathered evidence. Idaho State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the case remains open pending further findings.

The incident underscores ongoing safety concerns for pedestrians on interstate highways. Crashes involving vehicles and pedestrians in unusual circumstances—such as someone walking on an active freeway—typically warrant thorough investigation to determine contributing factors.
