Michelle Armstrong has been named interim dean of Albertsons Library at Boise State University, effective immediately, the university announced. The appointment came from Interim Provost Zeynep Hansen and marks Armstrong’s second tenure in the role.
Armstrong, who joined Boise State in 2005, has served as associate dean of Albertsons Library since 2018. She previously held the interim dean position from June 2021 through July 2022. The university plans to conduct a national search for a permanent dean while Armstrong leads the library during the interim period.
Background in Library Leadership
Over her two decades at Boise State, Armstrong has developed significant expertise in library operations and scholarly communications. She created the Boise State Experts Portal, a resource that highlights faculty research and expertise across the university. She also served as head of the Scholarly Communications and Data Management unit and was a member of the library’s Research Data Management Group, roles that positioned her to understand the evolving needs of academic libraries in the digital age.
Role and Responsibilities
In her new role, Armstrong emphasized her commitment to the university community. “I am deeply honored by the opportunity to serve as Interim Dean of Albertsons Library,” she said. “Every day I have the privilege of working with an extraordinarily talented and dedicated library faculty and staff.”
Armstrong noted the library’s importance to the broader institution. “Albertsons Library plays a vital role in the life of the university, and we look forward to continuing collaborating with colleagues across campus,” she added.
As the academic year approaches, the library is preparing for student welcome activities scheduled to begin with the fall semester. The library serves as a central hub for Boise State students, faculty, and staff, offering research services, study spaces, technology resources, and support for academic and scholarly work.
What Comes Next
While Armstrong oversees daily operations, Boise State will launch a national search for a permanent dean. The timeline for that recruitment process has not yet been announced. Students and faculty seeking library services or information about fall semester programming can visit the Albertsons Library website or contact the library directly.
