Boise State Tightens Stadium Chair Rules for 2026 Football Season

Boise State Tightens Stadium Chair Rules for 2026 Football Season

Boise State University is rolling out new restrictions on stadium seating for the 2026 football season at Albertsons Stadium, requiring fans to adhere to specific chair dimensions and design standards. The policy update aims to address longstanding complaints about oversized seating encroaching on neighboring spectators and blocking emergency access routes throughout the venue.

New Chair Requirements at Albertsons Stadium

Foldable seats and seat cushions brought to Boise State events must not exceed 18 inches in width. Chairs cannot contain metal frames or pockets, and fans are prohibited from bringing seating inside protective covers or bags. However, frame-free seat cushions and foldable cushions remain permissible under the new guidelines.

The restrictions apply to all events at Albertsons Stadium, not solely football games. According to Boise State officials, the policy was developed in response to fan feedback documenting chairs positioned improperly on bleachers, extending into adjacent seating areas, or reclined in ways that infringed on neighboring attendees’ space.

How the Policy Improves Game Day Experience

University administrators cite two primary benefits: accelerating security screening at entry points and maintaining clear aisles, seating zones, and emergency corridors. The measures come as Boise State enters its inaugural season in the Pac-12 Conference and debuts a newly constructed North End Zone facility.

Non-compliant chairs are not turned away. Instead, fans can check oversized or improperly designed seating at four designated locations: Entries 1, 2, 3, and Entry 4 inside the adjacent Caven-Williams Sports Complex. Attendees receive a ticket for retrieval and can pick up their checked item after the event concludes.

Chair Options for Boise State Fans

Several solutions are available to fans planning to attend games at Albertsons Stadium. Compliant foldable chairs from any retailer may be brought if they meet the 18-inch width requirement and contain no metal frames or pockets. Boise State is offering season-long chair rentals for $90 per seat, providing a hassle-free alternative for frequent attendees. Additionally, compliant Boise State-branded seating options are available for purchase at the Blue and Orange Store and at Albertsons Stadium itself.

The rule applies across all venue events, ensuring consistent enforcement whether fans are attending women’s soccer matches, football games, or other athletic competitions hosted at the facility.

What Comes Next

Boise State fans attending games during the 2026 season should review the chair policy before game day to avoid delays at entry. Those planning multiple visits may find the season rental option cost-effective, while occasional attendees can verify their existing chairs meet the 18-inch width standard and lack metal components. For questions about specific seating or compliance details, fans are encouraged to contact Boise State Athletics directly through the university’s official website.
