Boise Plans to Propose Maximum Property Tax Increase in 2027 Budget
Boise city officials are preparing to seek the maximum allowable property tax increase as part of the city’s 2027 budget proposal, citing growing costs across municipal operations. The move would push Ada County homeowners’ tax bills higher at a time when many residents are already feeling the strain of rising living expenses across the Treasure Valley.
City leaders have pointed to escalating expenses in areas such as infrastructure, public services, and personnel as driving factors behind the proposal. Under Idaho law, municipalities may increase their property tax levy by up to 3 percent annually without a special election.
The announcement follows earlier signals from Boise that its budget options were becoming increasingly limited. City officials previously acknowledged feeling financially “constrained” as they weighed a combination of tax and fee increases to cover shortfalls.
For Boise homeowners, the proposed maximum increase would add to a tax burden that has grown alongside the city’s rapid population expansion. No formal vote has yet been taken on the 2027 budget proposal.
