A serious crash on Interstate 84 east of Boise shut down westbound lanes for roughly 13 hours after a driver was struck Saturday night while standing outside a stopped vehicle. Idaho State Police reported the incident occurred at approximately 10:25 p.m. on June 27 near mile marker 67.

According to ISP, the driver had pulled over on the westbound shoulder and exited the vehicle when a passing westbound car struck them. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and the closure remained in effect through much of Sunday morning before crews were able to clear the roadway.

The 13-hour closure created significant travel disruptions along one of the Treasure Valley’s busiest highway corridors. I-84 serves as a primary artery connecting Boise to communities further east, and overnight and early-morning traffic through that stretch was heavily affected.

Idaho State Police has not released information on the condition of the injured driver or whether any charges are expected. ISP urges motorists who must stop on the highway shoulder to remain in their vehicles with seatbelts fastened whenever possible, as pedestrians on high-speed roadways face extreme risk even when vehicles are stopped in designated pull-off areas.

The incident comes amid ongoing safety concerns along southwest Idaho roadways. Residents and commuters traveling I-84 through Ada County are encouraged to stay alert, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced. For the latest on road conditions and weather-related hazards in the region, the National Weather Service has issued flood and thunderstorm warnings across southwest Idaho that could affect driving conditions in the coming days.

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Idaho State Police directly.
