Gas prices climb again in Boise, up 9 cents in a week

Boise, Idaho Gas Prices Jump 9 Cents in One Week, Hitting $4.36 Per Gallon Average

Gas prices in Boise, Idaho surged again this week, with the average price at the pump climbing 9 cents per gallon over the past seven days to reach $4.36 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s latest survey of 216 stations across the city. The increase adds to an already painful stretch for Ada County drivers, with Boise’s average now sitting 68.6 cents higher than a month ago and a full $1.20 above where it stood this same time last year.

How Bad Is the Pain at the Pump for Boise Drivers?

For Boise-area commuters filling up their tanks, the difference in price from station to station can be dramatic. As of Sunday, the cheapest station in Boise was selling regular gasoline for $4.17 per gallon, while the most expensive station listed gas at $4.99 per gallon — an 82-cent spread depending on where a driver stops.

Across all of Idaho, the price range is even wider. GasBuddy data show statewide prices running from $3.96 to $4.99 per gallon, a $1.03 spread. Idaho’s statewide average currently sits at $4.28 per gallon, up 6.0 cents from last week. That means Boise drivers are paying slightly more than the Idaho average, and considerably more than the national average of $4.07 per gallon — which itself is 39.1 cents higher than a month ago and 93.4 cents above year-ago levels.

Neighboring states are also seeing pressure at the pump. In Ogden, Utah, prices rose 6.5 cents to $4.19 per gallon, while Oregon drivers saw a smaller 2.1-cent jump, landing at $4.94 per gallon. Diesel prices nationally climbed 4.1 cents to $5.617 per gallon — a figure with serious implications for Idaho’s trucking industry, agriculture sector, and small businesses that depend on freight and delivery services.

Global Supply Tensions Are Driving the Surge

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, pointed to international geopolitical tensions as the key driver behind recent price spikes — and warned that relief may not be coming soon.

“However, with a breakdown in talks and renewed escalation over the weekend, motorists should prepare for another round of price increases,” De Haan said. “The move toward a full blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is compounding global supply concerns and risks further disrupting flows, which pushed oil prices sharply higher in Sunday night trading.”

De Haan noted that last week’s initial surge came before some temporary easing in certain areas, as oil prices briefly declined following President Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire. That relief proved short-lived. With tensions escalating again and global oil supply under renewed pressure, analysts are cautioning that the upward trend could continue in the near term.

Impact on Ada County Residents and Businesses

For hardworking Ada County families, rising gas prices act as an invisible tax — hitting household budgets on top of elevated costs for groceries, utilities, and housing. Treasure Valley commuters, many of whom drive significant distances between Meridian, Eagle, Kuna, Star, and Boise for work, face a compounding burden as prices remain well above the levels most Idaho drivers grew accustomed to in prior years.

Historical data from GasBuddy show just how much the landscape has shifted. Boise gas prices ranged from a recent low of $3.16 per gallon in April 2025 to a high of $4.50 in April 2022. The U.S. average during the same window ranged from $3.13 to $4.07 per gallon. Today’s Boise average of $4.36 already approaches that 2022 peak — and analysts aren’t ruling out further increases.

Small business owners across Ada County — from contractors and delivery services to food vendors and farmers — are especially vulnerable to sustained diesel and gasoline price hikes, which drive up operating costs and can ultimately be passed on to consumers. Local entrepreneurs like the Boise sibling duo behind Loving Lefse, who have grown a thriving small food business in the Treasure Valley, are among the many local operators watching fuel costs closely as they affect both production and delivery expenses.

What Comes Next

GasBuddy analysts warn that Boise and Idaho drivers should prepare for continued volatility at the pump as long as global supply disruptions persist. Drivers looking to save money are encouraged to use price-comparison tools like GasBuddy to identify the lowest-cost stations in their area before filling up — with a current range of more than 80 cents per gallon across Boise stations, shopping around can make a meaningful difference.

Ada County residents can monitor Idaho fuel prices in real time at GasBuddy.com or through the GasBuddy mobile app, which tracks prices across all 216 surveyed Boise stations and hundreds more statewide.
