Severe thunderstorms swept through the Treasure Valley Thursday evening, leaving thousands of Idaho Power customers in Boise, Meridian, and Garden City without electricity. Outages began appearing shortly after 4 p.m. across multiple parts of Ada County.
At the peak of the storm, more than 10,000 customers were affected across several simultaneous outages. The hardest-hit area was Boise’s North End and downtown corridor, where a single outage left more than 2,700 customers in the dark. An additional 1,500-plus customers on the Boise Bench also lost service.
Strong winds and lightning accompanied the storm as it moved through the greater Boise area, with a severe thunderstorm warning remaining active for portions of the Treasure Valley during the evening hours.
Idaho Power crews worked to restore service, resolving the largest outages, though the utility continued addressing scattered, isolated disruptions throughout Ada County as of late Thursday. Residents in affected neighborhoods were encouraged to monitor Idaho Power’s outage map for real-time restoration updates.
First responders across Ada County remain active during severe weather events. Ada County Paramedics leaders have noted growing service demand across the region, a trend that intensifies during emergencies like major storm systems affecting the Treasure Valley.
This is a developing situation. Power restoration timelines for remaining isolated outages had not been confirmed as of the time of publication.
