Much of Boise’s East End is without power as storm blows through Treasure Valley

Storm Knocks Out Power to Over 1,500 Idaho Power Customers in Boise’s East End

A thunderstorm sweeping through the Treasure Valley knocked out power to more than 1,500 Idaho Power customers in Boise’s East End on Monday afternoon — though power has since been restored to the affected area.

At the height of the outage, Idaho Power reported 1,532 customers without service. The utility said the cause remained under investigation but was believed to be connected to the wind event moving through Boise and the broader Treasure Valley. The company had initially estimated restoration by 5:30 p.m.

The storm brought strong wind gusts alongside thunderstorm activity, creating hazardous conditions across the region. High winds also caused significant damage at Boise Airport, where gusts nearing 60 mph tore the roof off an Alaska Air building earlier during the same weather system.

Idaho Power crews worked to identify and resolve the source of the outage. The utility serves customers across a wide swath of southern Idaho and eastern Oregon, and wind-related outages are among the most common disruptions during spring storm events in the Treasure Valley.

Residents in Boise’s East End — a densely populated neighborhood stretching toward the foothills — were advised to report any downed lines or other hazards to Idaho Power directly. Customers can track outage updates and estimated restoration times through the Idaho Power outage center.

Forecasters had warned of evening gusty winds, blowing dust, and isolated storms ahead of a significant cooldown expected Tuesday. Ada County residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and stay alert for additional weather-related disruptions as the system continues to move through the region.
