Idaho State Police are investigating a hit-and-run collision involving a school bus that sent the driver to the hospital and temporarily closed lanes on Interstate 84 near Heyburn on Wednesday evening.
The crash occurred around 8:23 p.m. on April 9, 2026, on eastbound I-84 near milepost 208. Troopers responded to reports that a school bus had struck a concrete barrier and was blocking the left lane of the highway.
Students Evacuated From Roadway
When troopers arrived, they found numerous students who had exited the bus and were standing on the roadway. All students on board were transported by ambulance to a nearby location where they were reunited with school officials and their parents. No serious passenger injuries were reported among the students.
The bus driver sustained minor injuries in the collision and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The school bus suffered significant damage to its front end and undercarriage after striking several jersey barriers along the interstate.
Second Driver Identified and Cited
Investigators determined the crash involved a hit-and-run incident with another vehicle. State police later identified a second driver connected to the collision and issued a citation in connection with the crash.
Traffic on eastbound I-84 was temporarily diverted while emergency responders worked to investigate the scene and remove the damaged bus from the roadway.
