Fire engine responding

A Boise Search and Rescue volunteer was flown to a hospital Friday after a two-vehicle collision on Idaho Highway 21 in Boise County, according to Idaho State Police. The crash near milepost 31 occurred at 12:19 p.m. on July 4 and involved a motorcycle operated by search-and-rescue personnel responding to emergencies in the Treasure Valley region.

The rider, a 27-year-old from Idaho City, was operating an orange 2025 KTM motorcycle heading south when it collided with a blue Ford Bronco driven by a 46-year-old Medford, Oregon resident. The motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet and sustained serious injuries serious enough to require airlifting to the hospital. The Bronco driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries or none at all.

Emergency responders including Idaho City Police Department, Boise County Search and Rescue, and Air St. Lukes assisted at the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately 24 minutes while emergency personnel managed the incident and prepared the injured rider for transport.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police. No additional details about the condition of the hospitalized rider have been released.

This incident highlights the risks faced by search-and-rescue volunteers who operate vehicles in mountainous terrain and busy highways across the Boise area. Similar emergency situations involving serious vehicle collisions have required helicopter transport for victims in Ada County and surrounding areas in recent years.
