West Ada Expands Free Meal Access at Nine Schools Starting Fall 2026

West Ada School District in Meridian announced Wednesday that nine of its campuses will offer free breakfast and lunch to all students beginning the 2026-27 school year through a federal nutrition program.

The district is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision, a U.S. Department of Agriculture initiative that removes cost barriers to meals for students at qualifying schools. Under the program, participating West Ada campuses will provide meals at no charge to every enrolled student, regardless of family income.

Program Details and Implementation

The nine schools joining the initiative will begin serving free meals when classes resume this fall. The announcement represents an expansion of meal access across West Ada, one of the region’s largest school districts serving Meridian, Eagle, Star, and surrounding Ada County communities.

The Community Eligibility Provision is designed to streamline lunch participation and eliminate stigma associated with means-tested meal programs. Schools and districts meeting certain enrollment thresholds for low-income students become eligible to offer universal free meals to their entire student body through federal reimbursement.

What Comes Next

Families with children attending the nine participating West Ada schools should expect free meal service to begin with the 2026-27 school year. West Ada families interested in learning which campuses are included in the program or seeking additional details about meal options can contact their school directly or visit the district office.

The announcement aligns with broader efforts by school districts across Idaho to maximize federal nutrition resources available to students. For more information on West Ada’s nutrition programs and services, residents can reach out to the district administration in Meridian.
