Ada County officials have reduced the size of the region’s largest roundabout following an uptick in vehicle collisions at the intersection. The redesign aims to slow traffic and improve safety for drivers navigating the busy traffic circle.
Roundabouts are engineered to reduce crash severity by forcing lower speeds, but the original configuration of Ada County’s largest example apparently encouraged faster travel. The smaller footprint should create tighter turning angles that naturally reduce vehicle speed while maintaining traffic flow through the intersection.
The modification reflects ongoing efforts across Ada County to enhance road safety. Recent initiatives include safety marker additions to University Drive crosswalks near Boise State and traffic signal installation planning on McMillan-McDermott Road. The county has also explored variable speed limit technology on Eagle Road in Meridian to manage congestion and reduce accidents.
Drivers using the redesigned roundabout should expect improved visibility and more predictable traffic patterns as the changes take effect.
